Normal Living is a documentary about Christina’s life from the age of  one to ten years. Her childhood is marked by uncertainty. Already when she is quite small, her parents suspect something is wrong with her. Endless examinations and vague results and a healthcare system  unable to coordinate its units don’t give the small family the confidence they need.

For Christina’s parents these years were very demanding, and as a result they ended up in divorce. This dramatic change affects Christina’s everyday life. Soon old enough for school, Christina still has no useful diagnosis. Some experts have suggested a form of autism, but they are not sure. They only have stated that she is at the mental level of a one to two year old child. Because she has no diagnosis, Christina gets no specialized treatment, but is integrated into the local school. Her new situation among normal children makes her even more isolated and introvert than ever.
Because the film director is Christina’s uncle, we have been able to move in close on Christina and her parent’s everyday situation through nine exhausting years.

In addition to being a powerful story, Normal Living presents outstanding documentation about how a life in uncertainty and daily struggle affects an ordinary famliy.
